1.Term Explanation

  1. Triconex: Brand name (Kangjisen), a Tricon Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) SIS Safety Instrumented System brand under Schneider Electric, applied to ESD, F&G, BMS furnace safety interlock for high-risk industries including chemical, oil & gas and power plants.
  2. EMP II: Abbreviation of Enhanced Multi-Processor Generation 2, the second-generation enhanced main CPU series of Tricon, upgraded successor model of MP3005.
  3. MP3006: Complete hardware model of main processor card with fully upgraded hardware architecture, memory capacity and computing performance compared with MP3005.
  4. Main Processor Module: The core unit responsible for calculation, scheduling and management of the whole SIS safety system.

Supplementary Core Architecture Note:

Adopts TMR triple redundant 2-out-of-3 fault-tolerant architecture. Three MP3006 processors must be installed synchronously in one rack. Three CPUs execute independent synchronous calculations and compare results via hardware in real time. Failure of one single CPU, memory or bus will not trigger spurious trip or fail-to-trip, fully certified SIL3.

The 2MB large-capacity SRAM is the key upgrade: double memory capacity versus MP3005, supporting more IO points, longer SOE event storage cycles, complex interlock logic and concurrent communication cache, ideal for large integrated chemical plants.

Equipped with built-in TriBus triple private synchronous bus controller to coordinate local IO, SRXM fiber remote IO extenders and CIM/TCM communication modules, with independent hardware fault diagnosis, clock synchronization and program verification unit.

Compatible with Tricon V10 systems and backward compatible with V9.6 platform, supporting online hot-swap and bumpless redundant switchover.

2. Core Main Purposes

  1. Execute full-plant safety interlock logic calculation (core function) Run safety logic programs downloaded via TriStation software, including ESD emergency shutdown, F&G fire & gas monitoring, HIPPS high-integrity pipeline protection, boiler BMS furnace safety and TS3000 large compressor unit protection. Calculation results from three channels are compared every scan cycle. If memory or computing unit of one processor is damaged, the other two will output correct interlock commands continuously, eliminating all single-point failure risks.
