Introduction
Full Name: Overspeed Emergency Shutdown Monitor Module
It is a dedicated hardware overspeed protection card compatible with the Bently Nevada 3500 machinery protection system, equipped with an independent safety circuit for emergency shutdown interlock of turbomachinery.

Core Functions
- Multi-channel Rotational Speed Pulse Signal Acquisition It accepts signals from magnetic speed sensors and eddy current speed probes, collects pulse signals of steam turbine and compressor shafts in real time, and converts pulses into accurate actual rotating speed. Dual redundant signal input channels are supported to enhance signal stability.
- Hardware-based Judgment for Multi-stage Overspeed Thresholds This module features an independent onboard hardware logic circuit that operates without software support. Three tiers of thresholds including alert, overspeed and dangerous trip can be configured. It continuously compares real-time rotating speed with safety setpoints to prevent protection failure caused by software breakdown.
- Independent Hard Contact Output for Emergency Shutdown Once the rotating speed exceeds the dangerous overspeed limit, dry passive contacts act instantly to connect to the unit ESD emergency shutdown circuit and force equipment trip. This hardware protection works separately from the rack main controller and meets SIL safety requirements.
- Full-channel Built-in Self-diagnosis It conducts real-time self-checks for sensor open circuit, probe short circuit, backplane communication error and internal module hardware failure. Alarms and fault codes will be generated and transmitted to the 3500 rack once abnormalities are detected.
- Data Communication & Upload Real-time speed data, overspeed alarms and fault events are transmitted to the rack interface module via the backplane bus, then uploaded to DCS, PLC and HMI monitoring systems for remote viewing and historical alarm record storage.
- Redundancy System Compatibility Dual-module redundant configuration is available. Two overspeed modules serve as backups for each other. If one module malfunctions, the other protection circuit remains functional, complying with safety standards for high-risk equipment in power and oil & gas industries.

Application & Purpose
- Compatible System: Bently Nevada 3500 rack-mounted machinery condition protection monitoring system.
- Applicable Equipment: Gas turbines, steam turbines, large centrifugal compressors, pipeline boosting turbomachines and high-speed rotating units on offshore platforms.
- Target Industries: Thermal power plants, natural gas compression stations, petrochemical refineries, offshore oil & gas platforms and coal chemical air separation plants.
- Core Value: It prevents runaway overspeed faults of rotating equipment, which may lead to rotor rupture, unit explosion and high-temperature leakage. As an indispensable core protection component of turbomachinery ESD safety systems, it complies with the API 670 standard for mechanical equipment protection.
