Main Functions
- Backplane to ControlNet Network Bridging It converts data between the ControlLogix chassis backplane and ControlNet bus. It enables the local ControlLogix CPU to exchange real-time I/O data, controller tags and explicit messages with all remote ControlNet nodes on the network, including remote I/O racks, variable frequency drives, panel HMIs and other Logix controllers.
- Deterministic Scheduled I/O Communication ControlNet uses time-scheduled data transmission. The 1756-CNBE handles scheduled implicit messaging for high-priority control I/O, ensuring fixed and predictable data update intervals, which is critical for closed-loop process control and interlock logic. It supports a maximum of 64 communication connections, with 40–48 available Logix connections.
- NAP (Network Access Port) for On-site Commissioning The built-in RJ45 NAP port allows engineers to directly connect programming laptops to the ControlNet network without disrupting the main coaxial bus, used for online programming, tag monitoring, network diagnosis and firmware download.
- Network Diagnosis & Fault Reporting The module continuously monitors ControlNet bus status, signal quality, node health and communication errors. Detected faults such as bus short, node dropout, cable failure or communication timeout will be reported to the ControlLogix controller, generating alarms for maintenance. www.plcva.com
- Multi-controller Interlocking & Peer-to-Peer Messaging It supports peer-to-peer message exchange between multiple ControlLogix controllers on the same ControlNet network. Controllers can share production data, status flags and safety interlock signals across network segments.
