It belongs to the V680 series industrial RFID (Identification Recognition) controller, also known as the industrial reader-head master controller. It is the core host of Omron’s industrial radio frequency identification system, specifically used for high-speed reading and writing, data storage and traceability of RFID electronic tags on workpieces, carriers, and fixtures on the production line, and is integrated with the previous PLC and servo driver to form a complete automated production line traceability system.

II. Core Function (What does the industrial RFID controller do)

Tag data reading and writing
For industrial RFID tags, it can read the unique ID, and write and read production data (process number, batch, defect record, processing parameters, output quantity). The tag can be repeatedly erased for over ten thousand times and is resistant to high-temperature oil stains. It is more durable than barcodes / QR codes.
Dual-channel independent control
CH1 and CH2 are completely independent and can simultaneously manage the identification and reading/writing of two production lines and two workstations, saving equipment costs.
Connect to PLC / upper computer
Through the RS232C/RS485 serial port, the read tag data is transmitted to the previously introduced CJ1M, CP2E series PLC. The PLC automatically controls the servo and cylinder based on the tag information to complete the corresponding process.
Digital IO trigger control
It comes with input and output terminals and can be externally connected with photoelectric sensors (trigger reading of the tag when the workpiece arrives at the reading area), output signals to the alarm light, and sorting solenoid valve.
Fault self-diagnosis
Real-time monitoring of antenna disconnection, no signal from the tag, and reading/writing errors. Through the ERR alarm terminal, a fault signal is output to facilitate equipment maintenance.
III. Detailed disassembly of all interfaces (refer to the pictures)

  1. Left power supply terminal 24VDC
    Terminal: +24V, 0V, GR grounding;
    Function: Power supply for the entire machine DC24V, standard power supply for industrial control cabinet, power ≤ 15W.
  2. RS-232C 9-pin DB9 serial port
    Purpose: Directly connect to the computer for parameter debugging, for touch screens, industrial upper computer; Omron dedicated communication protocol + universal Modbus RTU.
  3. Green terminal block for RS-422/RS-485 (RDA-/RDB+, SDA-/SDB+, SG)
    Industrial bus communication port, supports hand-in-hand networking of multiple controllers, long-distance (up to 500 meters) communication with PLC, compatible with CJ1M/CP2E PLC serial port module.
  4. Middle I/O terminal block (10 digital input/output points)
    Input (5 channels)
    TRG1, TRG2: two trigger inputs, connected to photoelectric switches, automatically start reading the tag when the workpiece arrives at the reading area;
    RST: reset input, externally connected button to clear fault alarms;
    IN1, IN2: general signal input, can be connected to safety doors, workpiece arrival signals.
    Output (5 channels)
    OUT1, OUT2: OK signal output for reading/writing completion (normal identification of the tag is conductive);
    ERR1, ERR2: channel failure output (no tag, antenna disconnection when alarm is conductive);
    COM1, COM2: two output common terminals, 24V transistor output, maximum 100mA, directly drive indicator lights, buzzers.
  5. Right CH1, CH2 circular aviation connector
    Dual-channel antenna amplifier interface, each channel can connect a set of RFID reading and writing antennas, completely independent and non-interfering, supports simultaneous reading/writing of two workstation tags.
  6. DIP switches (SW1~SW6)
    SW1/SW2/SW3/SW4: set communication station number, serial port baud rate;
    SW5 TEST: debugging mode switch, when enabled, manual trigger reading/writing test can be performed;
    SW6 ON: communication protocol switch (Omron dedicated protocol / Modbus RTU).
  7. Status indicator lights RUN/RST/COMM
    RUN: power operation indicator light;
    RST: reset / fault light;
    COMM: flashing light for serial port communication reception and transmission, quickly determines whether the communication is normal.
