Function of Schneider 170DNT11000 Modicon Series Communication Adaptor

The 170DNT11000 is a PROFIBUS DP slave communication adaptor for the Modicon Momentum automation platform. It is installed on top of Momentum I/O bases and acts as the bus interface for distributed remote I/O stations to connect to PROFIBUS DP industrial fieldbus networks.

Core Functions

1. PROFIBUS DP Data Forwarding Working as a DP slave for remote I/O sub-stations, it packages all digital and analog I/O signals from the Momentum base and transmits them to PROFIBUS DP master PLCs (such as Modicon Quantum and Premium series). Meanwhile, it receives control commands from the master to realize remote distributed I/O read & write operations.
2. High-speed Bus Communication It supports adjustable baud rates ranging from 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps via shielded twisted-pair cables. The maximum cable length of a single bus segment reaches 1200 meters, and up to 126 DP nodes can be connected on one bus, ideal for factories and production lines with scattered field equipment.
3. Flexible Topology & Simple Configuration It supports multidrop and ring network topologies. DIP switches on the module allow manual setting of DP slave addresses without software configuration. Built-in CRC-16 data check ensures reliable industrial data transmission.
4. Fault Diagnosis & Fail-safe Operation Equipped with a BF bus fault LED to visually indicate wire breakage, bus conflict or offline station failures. The fail-safe function forces I/O outputs to predefined safe states when bus communication is lost, preventing unexpected equipment movement or hazards.
5. Hardware Compatibility It clips directly onto the top of Momentum I/O bases and draws 24VDC power from the base without an external power supply. A standard 9-pin SUB-D DP connector with IP20 protection is designed for cabinet installation, compatible with inverters, transmitters and other DP bus devices.
