Introduction

This unit is a dedicated turbine condition monitoring & safety protection controller for Schneider Triconex Tricon SIS safety instrumented systems. PN 20-6884 is its internal part number, belonging to the Trisen TurboSentry series. It is specially designed for condition monitoring and interlock protection of rotating equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, large compressors and high-speed pumps, and can operate standalone or integrated into TMR triple modular redundant safety systems.

  1. Multi-parameter signal acquisition for high-speed rotating machinery It supports connection with displacement, velocity and acceleration vibration transducers, magnetic speed probes and key phase sensors to collect high-frequency dynamic signals such as shaft vibration, shaft displacement, casing vibration, rotor speed and phase pulses. Equipped with high-speed sampling circuits covering a wide frequency range of 0.1Hz to 10kHz, it accurately captures minor vibration anomalies of rotating units.
  2. Turbine safety interlock logic calculation and trip output Built with an independent safety processing unit, it stores protection threshold settings for overspeed, excessive vibration, over shaft displacement and abnormal temperature. It compares real-time process data with preset limits continuously. Once parameters exceed safe ranges, it instantly outputs 24VDC digital trip signals to drive ESD emergency shutdown solenoid valves and unit protection loops, avoiding severe equipment damage such as rotor rubbing and overspeed runaway.
  3. Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) fault-tolerant architecture compliant with SIL3 The module adopts three independent parallel signal acquisition and calculation channels with real-time hardware voting. If one channel fails or the circuit suffers open/short faults, the other two channels maintain continuous monitoring and protection output without spurious trip or fail-to-trip actions, meeting IEC61508 SIL3 functional safety requirements.
  4. Real-time full-loop diagnosis & sequence of events logging It continuously diagnoses transducer open circuits, shorted probes, signal attenuation, internal hardware faults and abnormal power supply. It generates millisecond-level Sequence of Events (SOE) logs and fault alarms uploaded to HMIs and engineering workstations, fully recording vibration peaks, overspeed timestamps and fault trigger moments for equipment failure traceability.
  5. Local HMI & on-site parameter configuration The front panel integrates a digital speed display, ALARM/TRIP/POWER status LEDs, TEST/RESET buttons and up/down adjustment keys. Operators can view real-time speed and vibration values locally, and modify protection thresholds, alarm delays and logic parameters directly via panel keys without upper workstation access for on-site commissioning.
  6. Standard industrial communication for remote data transmission It is equipped with Modbus TCP / RS485 communication ports to upload real-time rotating speed, vibration peak values, alarm status and fault codes to DCS and monitoring systems for centralized remote unit supervision. It supports remote configuration download and online protection logic verification from engineering workstations.
  7. Electrical isolation & surge resistance protection Independent opto-isolation circuits on the transducer input side eliminate ground loops and electromagnetic interference from field equipment. Built-in surge suppressors restrain voltage spikes generated by variable frequency drives and motor startup/shutdown, suitable for high-interference industrial sites such as refineries, power plants and offshore platforms.
  8. Fail-safe de-energized protection & online maintenance Designed on fail-safe principles, the module automatically outputs trip signals to force safe unit shutdown upon power loss or communication interruption. It supports hot-swap replacement while the cabinet remains energized, without interrupting protection loops of other units during maintenance.
  9. Multi-channel independent partition monitoring With high-density multi-terminal layout, it simultaneously monitors multi-axis vibration and multi-channel speed signals. One single module covers all measurement points of a complete turbine set to simplify field wiring. The matching 20-6884 terminal base realizes centralized cable distribution and current-limiting protection for transducer wires.
