Introduction

Product Overview

MP3006 (EMP II Enhanced Main Processor) is the 2nd-generation enhanced master core of Tricon TMR triple modular redundant SIS safety instrumented systems. Equipped with 2MB large-capacity battery-backed SRAM, it integrates a 32-bit main processor and floating-point math co-processor, serving as the central hub for calculation, scheduling, communication and storage of the entire safety system. It is widely applied in SIL3 safety processes including ESD emergency shutdown, BMS burner management and turbine unit protection.

  1. Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) core for safety logic execution Three MP3006 modules are installed in one rack for parallel synchronous operation. Three processors independently run identical safety control programs and compare calculation results via real-time hardware with 2-out-of-3 voting logic. If one processor or channel fails, the other two maintain continuous undisturbed operation without spurious trip or fail-to-trip actions, complying with IEC61508 SIL3 functional safety standards.
  2. 2MB SRAM for high-speed real-time data buffering The 2MB battery-backed static RAM temporarily stores user control programs, real-time I/O data, PID parameters, interlock setpoints and SOE event buffers. Rack backup batteries preserve SRAM data for up to six months after power loss without program re-download, drastically cutting fault recovery time. Compared with 1MB low-capacity processors, it supports larger complex interlock logic and multi-point process data storage.
  3. Unified full-rack hardware scheduling & periodic I/O scanning It scans all AI/AO/DI/DO modules, communication boards, power supplies and terminal blocks cyclically via high-speed TriBus backplane bus, collects field process signals uniformly and transmits output control commands. It diagnoses offline cards, channel open/short circuits, hardware damage and communication faults in real time and records complete fault sequences.
  4. Execution of complex safety control algorithms Built with an independent 32-bit floating-point math co-processor, it accurately performs PID regulation, overspeed calculation, vibration monitoring, flow temperature/pressure compensation, sequence interlock and pulse accumulation, supporting high-precision safety processes such as turbine protection, reactor safety and combustion control.
  5. Multi-interface external communication interaction Equipped with isolated RS232 diagnostic serial port and Ethernet port supporting Modbus industrial protocols. It communicates upward with DCS, HMI operator stations and engineering workstations to upload process parameters, alarms and SOE logs, and receives remote commands for program download, parameter modification and online logic verification. It also connects to third-party PLCs and remote diagnostic systems.
  6. Millisecond-level Sequence of Events (SOE) storage Benefiting from sufficient 2MB SRAM buffer space, it fully records millisecond-level timestamps of faults, alarms and switch actions to distinguish the occurrence sequence of events for post-incident process accident traceability.
  7. System configuration & program management The operating system and underlying drivers are solidified in EPROM, while user application programs are stored in SRAM. It supports incremental online program download and logic editing from engineering workstations without interrupting field safety interlock during modification.
  8. Full-channel real-time self-diagnosis & fault reporting It continuously self-checks the processor core, memory, bus, power supply and clock circuits. Severe data mismatch among three processors triggers front panel fault indicators immediately, and alarm messages are uploaded to upper systems for early hardware failure warning.
  9. Support online hot-swap maintenance A single MP3006 module can be hot-swapped while the system runs under full load. The other two redundant processors take over all calculation tasks without interruption of the whole SIS safety interlock, eliminating full plant shutdown for maintenance.
  10. Industrial rugged wide-temperature design for harsh environments With reinforced metal heat dissipation structure, it operates stably from 0℃ to 60℃ with excellent vibration and moisture resistance, suitable for high-electromagnetic-interference hazardous sites in chemical, oil & gas and power industries.
