Introduction
TCM 4353 (Tricon Communication Module with Embedded OPC Server) is a dedicated copper Ethernet communication card for Schneider Triconex TMR triple modular redundant SIS safety instrumented systems. It is equipped with dual RJ45 copper Ethernet ports, multiple RS232/485 serial ports and a DEBUG debug port. Its core feature is the on-board embedded OPC server, specially designed for external data exchange and cross-system interconnection of SIS systems, complying with IEC61508 SIL3 functional safety standards.
- Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) communication architecture for reliable safety data transmission The module integrates three independent parallel communication processing channels, which exchange data synchronously with the three TMR channels of MP main processors and perform real-time hardware voting verification. If one communication channel, network port or circuit fails, the other two channels maintain continuous data transmission and reception without disturbance. No loss of process parameters, SOE logs or interlock alarms occurs, and single-point faults will not interrupt system communication.
- On-board embedded OPC Server (Core W/OPC Feature) The NET2 port integrates native OPC DA 2.05 and OPC A&E 1.10 services without extra external OPC server hardware:
- It pushes real-time data including 4–20mA process values, discrete equipment status, turbine vibration & speed readings and over-limit alarms to HMIs, DCS, monitoring systems and third-party OPC clients;
- It fully uploads millisecond-level Sequence of Events (SOE) logs and fault records for post-incident traceability and audit, greatly simplifying plant-wide control network architecture and cutting upper system integration costs.
- Two independent isolated Ethernet ports for partitioned communication
- NET1: Supports TSAA, Modbus TCP, SNTP time synchronization and peer-to-peer networking of multiple Tricon racks, used for internal controller interconnection, GPS clock synchronization and program download from engineering workstations;
- NET2: Dedicated to embedded OPC service, TriStation commissioning and SNTP, connecting to plant-wide monitoring networks to release safety system data externally. Physical network isolation between internal and external networks improves network security.
- Multi-channel RS232/485 serial ports for multi-protocol conversion Multiple DB9 serial ports on the front panel support Modbus RTU/ASCII. They can connect field speedometers, vibration monitoring instruments, third-party PLCs and remote diagnostic equipment, converting non-standard serial data into standard Ethernet protocols for upper-level upload.
- Local DEBUG serial port for on-site commissioning A dedicated DEBUG interface is reserved for firmware upgrade, communication fault log reading and offline logic verification. On-site troubleshooting can be completed without Ethernet access for convenient cabinet maintenance.
- Real-time full-link communication diagnosis and fault reporting It continuously monitors network port link status, cable disconnection, network storm, communication timeout and module hardware faults. Front-panel LED indicators display PASS/FAULT/TX/RX status intuitively. Faults automatically trigger alarms and SOE logs uploaded to HMIs for fast network fault localization.
- Peer-to-peer multi-rack networking & plant-wide time synchronization Multiple Tricon SIS racks can be interconnected via NET1 ports to realize interlock linkage across multiple process units. A built-in SNTP client synchronizes unified GPS standard clock for the whole plant to ensure globally aligned timestamps of SOE events.
- Electrical isolation & industrial surge suppression protection Electrical isolation is implemented between network/serial ports and backplane bus to block ground loops and common-mode electromagnetic interference generated by variable frequency drives and large motors. Built-in surge suppressors adapt to high-interference hazardous sites such as chemical plants, oil & gas facilities and offshore platforms.
- Support online hot-swap maintenance without system shutdown The TCM4353 module can be hot-swapped while the system operates under full load. Redundant communication links keep data transmission uninterrupted, and the entire ESD/BMS safety interlock system runs continuously without full plant shutdown for maintenance.
- Large-capacity local data buffering Independent on-board event buffer caches alarms, trip signals and switch action logs during temporary network outages. All records will be transmitted automatically after network recovery without loss of fault sequences, meeting safety supervision traceability requirements.
