Introduction
1.Term Explanation
- TRICONEX: Brand name (Kangjisen), a Tricon Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) SIS Safety Instrumented System brand under Schneider Electric, dedicated to high-risk process control including ESD, F&G and boiler furnace safety systems.
- SDO: Abbreviation of Supervised Digital Output, safety-type digital output with full loop monitoring, different from general DO modules, featuring real-time load circuit diagnosis per channel.
- 3411S2: Complete hardware model. S2 stands for the second-generation upgraded hardware, optimized for quadruple transistor voting, pulse self-test diagnosis and wide-temperature anti-interference performance.
- digital output module: Official standard component designation.
Supplementary Core Architecture Note:
Adopts TMR triple redundancy + quadruple output transistor voting architecture. Three independent operation signals pass through four-way switching hardware voting before output. Single or multiple internal component faults will not cause spurious trip or fail-to-trip, certified SIL3. Equipped with 16-channel 24VDC solid-state outputs, max 2A driving current per channel, compatible with solenoid valves, shutoff valves, audible & visual alarms and other field safety actuators. Built-in non-intrusive pulse loop self-test detects wire breakage, short circuit, missing load and contact adhesion without interrupting safety output. Compatible with Tricon V9/V10 and Tri-GP safety systems, supporting online rack hot-swap maintenance.

2. Core Main Purposes
- Drive execution signals for safety interlocks (core function) Receives ESD emergency shutdown, Fire & Gas (F&G) and HIPPS high-integrity pressure protection logic results from Emp II 3005 triple processors, outputs 24VDC switching signals to field safety equipment including emergency shutoff solenoids, fuel cut valves, wellhead safety block valves and unit emergency stop circuits, reliably sending trip commands once process limit conditions are triggered.
- Full closed-loop channel monitoring & comprehensive fault diagnosis Built-in non-intrusive pulse detection circuit continuously collects voltage and current data of every output loop:
- Detect wire breakage, field load short circuit, damaged valve coils and missing loads;
- Identify latent faults of stuck-on/stuck-off output switches;
- Upload faults to main controller within milliseconds and generate SOE logs for predictive maintenance and safety accident traceability.
- Quadruple hardware voting to eliminate single-point safety failure Three independent TMR signals enter quadruple transistor output arrays for hardware voting. The module maintains correct output status even with multiple internal component damages, completely avoiding safety interlock failure caused by single-point faults of ordinary single-channel output modules, fully complying with IEC 61508 SIL3 top-tier process safety standards.
- Drive field audible & visual safety alarms Output signals control explosion-proof audible & visual alarms, local warning lights and on-site alarm horns to trigger on-site visual & audible early warnings under abnormal conditions such as overtemperature, overpressure and combustible gas leakage.
- Interlock run/stop contact signal exchange across multiple systems Output run permission and interlock shutdown hard contacts to boiler BMS burner management systems, TS3000 large compressor units and third-party PLCs to realize plant-wide cross-equipment safety linkage.
- Galvanic isolation to protect main control system Independent optoelectronic isolation and automatic current-limiting short-circuit protection per channel. Short circuits on field wiring, lightning surges and electromagnetic interference from inverters cannot damage main rack backplanes and 3005 main CPUs, isolating safety zones from high-interference field areas.
- Redundant maintenance with online hot-swap Faulty modules can be replaced directly without plant shutdown. Remaining channels and triple redundant architecture continuously maintain safety interlock operation, avoiding huge economic losses from full production halt of high-risk plants.
- Output matching remote IO racks via fiber extenders Compatible with SRXM4210 fiber optic remote extender modules, deployable in remote explosion-proof IO cabinets to drive field shutoff valves over long distances. Fiber isolation eliminates ground loop interference, and remote IO retains identical SIL3 safety level as local cabinets.
3. Applicable Application Scenarios
Scenario 1: Petrochemical Refineries (Core Application)
ESD Emergency Shutdown Systems for oil refineries, ethylene plants, hydrogenation and catalytic reforming units. SDO3411S2 drives furnace fuel cut valves, reactor feed emergency shutoff valves and circulating pump emergency stop interlocks to mitigate explosion and fire hazards caused by overtemperature & overpressure.
Scenario 2: Offshore Oil Platforms, LNG Plants & Long-distance Oil/Gas Pipelines
Fire & Gas safety systems for offshore platforms, LNG tank yards, pipeline compressor stations and block valve chambers. Adapted to outdoor explosion-proof cabinets with high corrosion, severe vibration and lightning risks, controlling interlock shutdown for combustible gas leakage, HIPPS overpressure protection and wellhead block valves.
Scenario 3: High-temperature & High-pressure Units of Coal Chemical, Ammonia & Methanol Plants
Safety interlock output for gasifiers and synthesis towers, driving emergency cut-off actuators for oxygen and gasification agents to prevent catastrophic safety accidents such as furnace deflagration and high-pressure medium leakage.
Scenario 4: Furnace Safety Supervision System (BMS) for Thermal Power & Waste Incineration Boilers
Interlock output for boiler ignition, furnace purge and gas/oil fuel cut-off to eliminate flashback and furnace deflagration, complying with mandatory SIL3 safety codes for power industries.
Scenario 5: Explosion-proof Reaction Workshops of Fine & Pharmaceutical Chemical Industry
Safety interlock systems for high-risk nitration, chlorination and oxidation reactors, automatically cutting raw material feed, shutting down heating steam and activating pressure relief valves under abnormal working conditions.
Scenario 6: TS3000 Large Compressor & Fan Unit Protection Systems
ESD shutdown loop output for large petrochemical compressors. Stable operation under severe electromagnetic interference from high-power inverters in compressor workshops to prevent false interlock trips.
Scenario 7: Overseas Complete Oil & Gas / Chemical Equipment Export Projects
