Functions of TRICONEX 8310N2 120VAC/DC 5A Power Module

1. Regulated power supply for full rack, multi-channel isolated DC conversion The 8310N2 is a dedicated power card for Schneider Tricon TMR triple modular redundant SIS safety instrumented systems, rated at 120VAC/DC input with 5A nominal input current, supporting wide input range of 85–140VAC and 95–180VDC. It converts external AC/DC power into multiple isolated regulated DC outputs (+5.1V, ±15V, auxiliary 24V), supplying clean and stable operating power to MP main processors, digital/analog I/O cards, communication modules and backplane circuits, acting as the core power source of the entire safety system.
2. Dual redundant load-sharing power supply, compliant with SIL3 fault tolerance Each Tricon rack is equipped with two 8310N2 modules running in parallel redundant mode with automatic load balancing. If one module fails, loses input power or suffers circuit faults, the other unit can independently carry the full rack load with seamless millisecond-level switching without system power loss or shutdown, achieving hardware fault tolerance that meets IEC61508 SIL3 safety integrity level requirements.
3. Universal dual-input design for 120V AC & DC It accepts both 120V alternating current and 120V direct current power supplies, matching North American standard industrial power distribution. It can be directly connected to industrial AC UPS or DC backup batteries without extra conversion equipment, cutting on-site power distribution modification costs for offshore platforms and refineries.
4. Multi-stage electrical protection to isolate surges and short-circuit impacts It integrates five protection functions: overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and overtemperature protection. The input side is fitted with EMC filters and surge absorbers to suppress grid harmonics, voltage transients and lightning surges. Independent branch voltage regulators are built internally; a short circuit on one branch only isolates that channel without disrupting the whole rack power, protecting CPUs and precision I/O cards from damage.
5. Real-time full-parameter diagnosis with status indicators Front panel LED indicators including PASS, FAULT, ALARM, TEMP and BAT LOW continuously monitor input voltage, multi-channel output voltage, output current, internal temperature and backup battery voltage. In case of overload, overheating, module failure or low battery, fault indicators light up immediately, and alarms plus Sequence of Events (SOE) logs are uploaded to HMIs and engineering workstations for early warning of power risks.
6. Long hold-up time to complete fail-safe safety actions It provides a minimum 20ms output hold-up time. During brief grid dips or momentary power loss, DC output remains stable to ensure full execution of ESD emergency shutdown and BMS burner interlock logic, preventing safety logic interruption and process runaway caused by instantaneous power cut.
7. Industrial ruggedized wide-temperature design for harsh environments Adopting reinforced dust-proof heat dissipation construction, it operates stably from -20℃ to +70℃, with excellent resistance to vibration, humidity and chemical corrosion, suitable for high-dust, high-electromagnetic-interference hazardous sites such as oil & gas offshore platforms, chemical plants and power stations.
8. Support online hot-swap maintenance Faulty 8310N2 modules can be replaced while the system is fully energized and loaded. The redundant counterpart sustains full load throughout replacement without interrupting the whole SIS safety interlock system, eliminating full plant shutdown for maintenance.
