SLS1508 (Part No.12P3162X112) is the Smart Logic Solver (safety controller) for DeltaV‑SIS Safety Instrumented System. DeltaV‑SIS is Emerson’s SIL‑3 rated safety instrumented system for process industry, performing ESD emergency shutdown and safety interlock protection in compliance with IEC61508 / IEC61511 functional‑safety standards.

Adopting 1oo2D dual‑CPU redundant architecture, SLS1508 integrates 16 configurable I/O channels and built‑in HART field‑device diagnostic capability, serving as the computing core of complete SIS solution. This hardware has reached EOL status; OEM new production is discontinued. New projects adopt successor CSLS CHARMs Smart Logic Solver. Available supplies are surplus stock and refurbished spare parts.

Main Functions

1. Safety logic execution: 1oo2D dual‑CPU redundant architecture to execute SIF (Safety Instrumented Function) logic with 50 ms scan rate. SIL‑3 certified for safety interlock and emergency shutdown logic processing.
2. All‑in‑one configurable I/O: 16 software‑configurable local channels, configurable as HART analog input, NAMUR discrete input, digital output and HART two‑state output. All channels support wire short‑circuit and open‑circuit fault detection.

1. HART intelligent diagnosis: Reads diagnostic data from HART smart field instruments to identify instrument faults in advance, reduce spurious trips and improve plant availability.
2. System communication: Peer‑to‑peer communication among multiple SLS1508 units over SISnet safety bus. Interfaces with DeltaV DCS or third‑party DCS / PLC. Safety system maintains hardware and network isolation from control system to meet functional‑safety requirements.
3. Hardware self‑diagnosis & status reporting: Continuous self‑test for power supply, CPU, memory and I/O channels; fault status reported to host system. Supports hot‑standby redundancy with switch‑over time less than 100 ms.
4. Engineering configuration: Graphical safety‑logic configuration via DeltaV Control Studio, with parameter modification validation and password‑based access control for IEC61511 compliance.

3. Cooperates with DeltaV DCS to realize separated control‑and‑safety architecture while enabling operator‑station data exchange.
