The MFR11 (5448‑884) is an integrated generator & prime‑mover protection relay, core functions include:

1. Electrical Generator Protection Over‑current, over‑voltage, under‑voltage, over‑frequency, under‑frequency, reverse power, negative sequence current, loss of excitation, phase unbalance, phase‑to‑phase & earth‑fault ground protection.
2. Prime‑mover / Turbine‑engine Protection Overspeed protection, shutdown logic, trip output for gas turbine / diesel generator set.
3. Measurement & Monitoring Real‑time measuring of voltage, current, power, frequency; metering values; event log / fault sequence of events (SOE) recording for post‑fault analysis.
4. Logic & Control Configurable logic gates; trip/alarm relay outputs; digital input for external sensor status; communication interface for SCADA / DCS system connection.

Woodward MFR11 Multi‑Function Protection Relay

2. Application / Purpose

The Woodward MFR11 P/N 5448‑884 is designed for synchronous generator sets, mainly gas‑turbine driven generators and large diesel gen‑sets.

1. Provides comprehensive protection for on‑grid or island‑mode synchronous generators, prevents generator winding damage from electrical faults and abnormal operating conditions.
2. Works together with Woodward governor control systems for gas turbines and reciprocating engines, coordinates protection trip commands between generator electrical faults and prime‑mover mechanical faults.
3. Widely deployed in power plants, industrial self‑generation stations, offshore power units, combined‑cycle power facilities.
4. Acts as standalone protection unit or complements main generator protection system; sends alarm & hard‑wired trip signals to circuit breaker and engine shutdown system when fault occurs.
