The overall function of the Siemens S7-200SMART analog expansion module
The CPU body only has a small number of analog points. The AE/AM/AQ expansion modules are used to collect and output continuous changing voltage/current signals (temperature, pressure, level, frequency converter speed regulation, regulating valve, etc.), processing non-switching continuous analog signals.

1. AE Series: Analog Input Module (Collecting External Signals)
   AE04: 4 Analog Input Channels
   AE08: 8 Analog Input Channels
   Function: Collecting on-site sensor signals
   Standard Signals: 4–20mA, 0–10V, 0–5V
   Applicable: Temperature transmitters, pressure sensors, level, flow, weighing sensors
   Converting the continuous physical quantities at the site into digital values within the PLC for program operation, display, and alarm.
2. AQ Series: Analog Output Module (Outputting Control Signals)
   AQ02: 2 Analog Output Channels
   AQ04: 4 Analog Output Channels
   Function: PLC outputs continuous signals to control the execution equipment
   Output 4–20mA / 0–10V
   Applicable: Frequency setting of frequency converter, electric regulating valve, proportional valve, light dimming, servo speed regulation
3. AM Series: Analog Mixed Module (Integrated Input + Output)
   AM03: 4 Input + 2 Output
   AM06: 6 Input + 2 Output
   Function: Integrated analog input + analog output, moderate points, saving expansion slot, commonly used in small and medium-sized equipment; connect sensors on one side and directly drive regulating valves and frequency converters on the other side.
