Functions of TRICONEX 8305A 120VAC/DC Power Supply Module

  1. System power conversion, supplying stable DC power for Tricon rack The 8305A is a dedicated power supply card for Schneider Triconex TMR triple modular redundant SIS safety systems. It accepts dual 120V AC/DC input, converts external 120V industrial power into multiple isolated regulated DC power supplies required by CPUs, I/O modules and communication boards inside the rack. It provides continuous, clean operating power for main processors, analog/digital I/O cards and communication boards, acting as the core power source of the entire SIS system.
  2. TMR redundant power supply architecture for power fault tolerance Multiple 8305A power modules can be installed in one Tricon rack for parallel redundant power supply. Each unit independently outputs multi-channel DC power. If one power module fails, loses input power or has circuit faults, the remaining healthy modules take over all loads seamlessly without system power loss or shutdown, meeting SIL3 high safety integrity level requirements for uninterrupted operation.
  3. Wide-range dual input compatibility (120VAC/DC) It supports both 120V alternating current and 120V direct current field power supply standards, matching North American 120V industrial power distribution. It can be directly connected to AC UPS or DC backup batteries on site, greatly reducing on-site power distribution modification costs.
  4. Multi-layer electrical protection and surge suppression It integrates protection circuits against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and overheating. The input side is equipped with EMC filters and surge absorbers to filter grid harmonics, lightning surges and voltage transients, preventing damage to CPU and I/O cards caused by abnormal power supply, suitable for industrial sites with unstable power grids such as chemical and oil & gas plants.
  5. Real-time power status diagnosis and fault reporting It continuously monitors parameters including input voltage, output voltage, output current, internal temperature and fan status. In case of abnormal power supply, overload, overheating or module failure, it triggers hardware fault indicators, generates alarms and Sequence of Events (SOE) logs, and uploads them to HMIs and engineering workstations for advance troubleshooting of power risks.
  6. Fail-safe design to maintain uninterrupted safety interlock If a single power unit malfunctions, it automatically cuts off output of the faulty branch without abnormal voltage surges to downstream cards. The multi-power redundant structure eliminates ESD/BMS safety interlock shutdown caused by single-point power failure to avoid hazardous process conditions.
  7. Support online hot-swap maintenance The 8305A can be hot-swapped while the system is fully loaded. The rack power supply remains uninterrupted during replacement, and other power modules sustain full load operation without plant shutdown for maintenance.
  8. High-efficiency isolated voltage regulation to suppress ground loop interference Multi-stage electrical isolation is adopted internally to fully isolate the external power side from the rack control side, block grid ground loops and common-mode interference, prevent power clutter from disturbing logic calculation, and ensure accurate and stable CPU operation.
