Main Functions

TMR Triple Modular Redundant Safety Logic Execution It is the core processing unit of Tricon SIS system. Three independent 32-bit processor channels run the same safety program in parallel, and adopt 2-out-of-3 (2oo3) hardware voting mechanism. Single hardware fault will not cause wrong trip or fail to trip, realizing fault tolerance and high safety integrity up to SIL3 (IEC61508).
I/O Data Processing & Backplane Communication Communicate with all I/O modules via Tricon backplane TriBus, collect field input signals, compute safety interlock logic and send voted output commands to field actuators.
System-wide Online Diagnostics Real-time self-diagnosis for processor, memory, circuit and communication channels. It can detect internal module faults, I/O channel failures and wiring faults automatically, record fault events and alarm for maintenance.
Safety Program Storage & Operation Store user safety application program in built-in flash memory and DRAM. The safety logic is configured and downloaded via TriStation 1131 engineering software.
External Communication Support Ethernet and serial communication interfaces to exchange data with DCS, HMI and other host systems for safety status uploading, alarm transmission and remote monitoring.
Hot-swap support The module can be replaced online during system operation without shutting down the whole safety system, reducing plant downtime.

Applications / Purpose

This module is the brain of Tricon safety instrumented system, used for safety-critical industrial process protection scenarios that require SIL3 safety integrity level.

ESD Emergency Shutdown System: Automatically cut off process and enter safe state when hazardous conditions happen in oil & gas, refinery and chemical plants.
F&G Fire and Gas System: Process flame, combustible gas detection signals and trigger fire suppression and interlock actions.
BMS Burner Management System: Safe ignition, monitoring and shutdown control for industrial boilers and furnaces.
Turbine Safety Control: Overspeed protection and safety interlock for gas turbines and steam turbines in power plants.
Other safety interlock applications: Offshore platforms, pipeline stations, pharmaceutical and hazardous chemical process safety protection.
