Introduction
1.Core Functions
The 3500/22M combines two jobs in one card: it acts as the Rack Interface Module (RIM) for the entire 3500 rack, and as an embedded communication / data processor (similar to an external TDXnet processor). Every 3500 rack must contain exactly one TDI or RIM in Slot 1.www.plcva.com
- Rack interface & configuration gateway
- Manages rack-level configuration, mode control (RUN / PROGRAM keylock), rack reset, and OK-status relay.
- Hosts the front-panel USB-B port and Ethernet link for local or remote engineering access via 3500 System Configuration software.
- Continuous static data collection
- Polls all M-series monitor modules (e.g. 3500/40M, 3500/42M) and collects their steady-state measured values, alarm states, and four nX (synchronous) amplitude & phase values per measurement point.
- Transient / startup-coastdown data capture
- Captures waveforms at programmable speed increments and time intervals during machine startup and shutdown.
- Increasing-speed and decreasing-speed intervals are independently configurable.
- Collection can be triggered when machine speed enters one of two programmable speed windows. This is the data used to build Bode, cascade and full-spectrum plots.
- Alarm event data capture (pre- and post-event)
- On an alarm trip, buffers pre- and post-alarm data:
- Static values at 1 s intervals for 10 min before / 1 min after.
- Static values at 100 ms intervals for 20 s before / 10 s after.
- Waveform snapshots at 10 s intervals for 2.5 min before / 1 min after the alarm.
- On an alarm trip, buffers pre- and post-alarm data:
- Dynamic waveform & spectrum acquisition (with optional Channel Enabling Disk)
- Up to 48 channels of waveform data.
- Synchronous sampling options from 16 samples/rev × 128 revolutions up to 1024 samples/rev × 2 revolutions.
- Asynchronous, anti-alias-filtered sampling supporting up to an 800-line spectrum, with frequency spans from 10 Hz up to 30 kHz.
- Channel pairs can be presented as shaft orbit or full-spectrum plots across multiple monitors.
- Keyphasor signal support
- Accepts up to four system Keyphasor signals (from a 3500/25 or 3500/50M) to provide speed and phase reference.
- Speed range: 1 rpm to 100,000 rpm (1–16 dynamic channels), 60,000 rpm (17–24 channels), 30,000 rpm (25–48 channels). Multi-event-per-revolution inputs up to 20 kHz.
- Rack-wide hardware control & diagnostics
- I/O Module OK relay (normally energized) signals rack health; rated up to 5 A @ 24 Vdc/120 Vac.
- Dry-contact inputs for Trip Multiply (inhibit alarms in programmable windows), Alarm Inhibit, and Rack Reset.

2. Applications & Purpose
Core Purpose
The 3500/22M is the nerve center and data exit port of a 3500 machinery protection rack. While the protection logic (alarms, trips, relay outputs) runs independently on the monitor cards and does not depend on the TDI, the TDI is what turns a standalone protection rack into a connected, diagnostically rich condition-monitoring system. It feeds continuous, phase-referenced vibration and speed data into Bently Nevada System 1 software for trend analysis, order tracking, balancing, and post-trip investigation.
