1. Serial ↔ optical signal conversion Converts between RS-232 / RS-422 / RS-485 electrical signal and single-mode fiber optical signal. It can only be configured for one serial standard at a time via DIP switches, cannot run multiple serial standards simultaneously.

• Fiber ring mode: Multiple TCF-142 units form a serial fiber ring. If one fiber segment breaks, communication can automatically bypass the fault link to maintain serial data transmission.

5. Industrial surge & ESD protection Built-in 15kV ESD protection for serial port; robust EMC immunity against electrical surge, electromagnetic noise, which isolates ground loop interference effectively.
6. Status indication & DIP switch configuration LED indicators for power, fiber Tx/Rx status. On-board DIP switches select serial mode (RS232/422/485), 2-wire /4-wire RS485, enable/disable fiber ring function.

Working Flow

Field serial device (RS485/232 instrument) → electrical serial signal → TCF-142-S-SC-T converts electrical signal to optical signal → single-mode fiber cable → remote TCF-142 converter converts optical signal back to serial electrical signal → PLC / host computer receives serial data.
