1.Core Functions

The 3500/50M tachometer module acquires pulse signals from speed probes, calculates rotational speed and provides speed-related protection and diagnostic functions for rotating machinery.www.plcva.com

1. Pulse signal reception and conditioning Accept input signals from magnetic pickup (MPU) or Hall-effect speed sensors. It filters signal noise, shapes sine or square wave pulse signals into stable digital pulses.
2. Rotational speed calculation Count the pulses generated by gear teeth on the rotating shaft, compute shaft RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) in real time. It supports a wide measuring range for different rotating equipment.
3. Speed threshold alarm & trip logic Supports configurable setpoints for overspeed, underspeed and zero-speed detection. When the measured speed exceeds or falls below preset limits, it activates Alert and Danger levels. Hardware relay contacts output interlock signals for ESD or control systems to trigger machine trip to prevent overspeed damage.
4. Phase reference / Keyphasor signal processing It can process Keyphasor signal, which serves as the phase reference point for vibration spectrum analysis, shaft orbit and order tracking. This is critical for rotor dynamic fault diagnosis.
5. Built-in module and sensor diagnostics Continuously detect probe open circuit, short circuit, signal loss and module hardware faults. Front-panel LEDs indicate OK, fault and alarm status.
6. Data communication Transmit real-time RPM, Keyphasor status, alarm and fault information to the 3500 system controller, HMI and plant DCS network. It also provides buffered raw pulse output for external analysis.

2. Applications & Purpose

Core Purpose

This module is dedicated to rotational speed and Keyphasor monitoring for critical rotating machinery. It measures shaft rotating speed, detects overspeed risk and provides phase reference signals for vibration analysis. It works together with other 3500 monitor cards (such as 3500/42M) to complete the full machinery protection system, complying with API 670 standard.plcva.com
